Remembrance Day Gathering, 11 November 2003
Updated 06-May-2014

On Tuesday 11 November 2003, members of the H.M.S. Hood Association gathered at the Portsmouth Naval Memorial to remember their fallen comrades, family members and friends. This was in observance of Remembrance Day. Shown here are photos from that gathering.

Association members gathered at the Naval Memorial around 1045. Those in attendence were (alphabetically sorted) Paul Bevand, Ted Briggs, Ken "Nobby" Clark, Keith Evans, Peter and Jean Heys, Lord and Lady Hood, Ernest McConnell, Anthony Middleton, Michael Nottage, Frank Pavey, Ron Paterson, Roger Tombs and Dick Turner. There were a number of other people present as well.

Association President Ted Briggs laid a wreath on behalf of the Association. Following this, at 1100 hours, the field gun was fired signalling the start of two minutes of silence. This was followed by a few words by Association padre, Reverand Ron Paterson and Commander Keith Evans. After taking time to pay respects to the fallen men, the group visited the Royal Sailors Home Club for further business and drinks.

This year's gathering was notable in that it was the first Rembrance Day attended by Association Patron Lord Hood (or, Henry, as he repeatedly reminds us!) and his good lady wife Fleur. The Association honoured the Hoods, whilst at the Royal Sailors Home Club, by presenting them with a wonderful painting by artist Marii Chernev.
