Biographical Information: John was the son of Richard and Lydia Atkinson of Riddings. He as educated at St John's School, Ripley and at Somercotes Central School. Following school, he worked at Swanwick Colleries. John entered the Navy in 1939 and Hood is believed to be his only ship. He was 20 years old at the time of his loss. We have no additional information.
