Biographical Information: Daniel was one of three children (two sons and a daughter) born to Patrick and Annie McCaughey of Glasgow. The family was originally from Dundalk, Ireland but are believed to have moved to Scotland sometime around Daniel's birth.

Daniel was the husband of Margaret (Peggy) McCaughey, of Glasgow (married in 1939/1940). Together they had one daughter, Margaret, who was born sometime after Hood had sunk. She passed away in 1996.

Daniel was 21 years old at the time of his loss. We have no additional information.
