Biographical Information: John was born on 10 July 1905 in Stoke-on-Trent, Stafforshire to John and Ann Payne. He had a twin brother named George. Both brothers went on to serve in the Royal Navy.

He was the husband of Phoebe Payne, of Gosport, Hampshire. Together they had two children. He was 35 years old at the time of his loss. We have no additional information.
