Biographical Information: "Sonny" as he was known to his family, was born on 23 July 1920 to parents George and Fanny Smith of Odiham Hants. He was the youngest of their children. He worked as a nurseryman in his teen years.

Sonny joined the Royal Navy on 27 December 1939. He was first posted to H.M.S. Victory as a Stoker 2nd Class. He joined H.M.S. Hood on 29 April 1940. He was promoted to Stoker 1st Class on 27 December of that year. He was 21 years old at the time of his loss. We have no additional information.
