The family remember Billie telling them how, regardless of what ship he was on, he was always sick before they cleared Portsmouth harbour. He also told them that the fact that he couldn't swim didn't concern him as "I'd be in the galley if the ship was hit." Billie was 46 years old at the time of his loss.
